REVIEW TO 'THE CUT-THROAT CAFE' BY NICKI THORNTON

ADVERTISEMENT {REVIEW}

I received this book as a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion. A big thank you goes here to Scholastic Australia.

The third magical murder mystery in the bestselling Seth Seppi series, which started with The Last Chance Hotel!

Seth and his talking cat Nightshade arrive in the magical town of Gramichee to gain an apprenticeship: he's finally read to qualify as a magician. But he soon discovers that the existing apprentices are under attack at the town's Scrumdiddlyumptious Caf , which is far more deadly than it is delightful. Seth's got his hands full, as usual. Can he pass his exams, discover who's murdering the apprentices, and stop them before they strike again?

The cover of ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴜᴛ-ᴛʜʀᴏᴀᴛ ᴄᴀꜰᴇ by Nicki Thornton is gorgeous. It's perfectly suitable for all ages and resembles the story well.

We haven't been aware, that this is book 3 in a series. Though we quickly realised, that it's one of those series, which you can read independently. There has been the occasional reference to the previous adventures but the author worked through that quite well.

DJ very much enjoyed the author's writing style and described it as very thrilling, mysterious, and a bit spooky. What he's been most excited about, though, has been the eerie setting of Grimachee. He found this magical mystery to be quite the page turner and has been utterly spell-bound by this book.

When it comes to the characters, Nicki Thornton did a fabulous job. They are quite interesting and especially Seth seems to grow a lot throughout the story. He works out his issues very well and DJ described his character as courageous, adventurous, and curious.

DJ absolutely recommends this magical, mystical, and eerie story to all you magic and mystery lovers out there. He wasn't sure about this combination of genres first, but it turned out to be one of his reading highlights of 2020.
