REVIEW TO 'SEASON OF THE WITCH' BY SARAH REES BRENNAN

UNPAID ADVERTISEMENT {REVIEW}

I received this book as a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion. A big thank you goes to the publisher Scholastic Australia.

It's the summer before her sixteenth birthday, and Sabrina Spellman knows her world is about to change. She's always studied magic and spells with her aunts, Hilda and Zelda. But she's also lived a normal mortal life-attending Baxter High, hanging out with her friends Susie and Roz and going to the movies with her boyfriend, Harvey Kinkle. Now time is running out on her everyday, normal world and leaving behind Roz and Susie and Harvey is a lot harder than she thought it would be. But Sabrina has always been smart and strong enough to make her own decisions. Will she choose to forsake the path of light and follow the path of night? Our exclusive prequel novel will reveal a side of Sabrina not seen on the new Netflix show. What choice will Sabrina make... and will it be the right one?

Usually, I'm not much of a fan of faces on covers but as everyone already knows what Sabrina looks like, it was quite alright for me. Also the bright red really suits the book and its darker direction.

When it came to the writing style of the author, I was hooked from page 1. I found the story to be easy to follow and everything added up in the end. I enjoyed the light and humorous scenes but I got addicted to the darker, kind of frightening scenes - the goosebumps scenes. There have been some unsuspected turns in the plot and who doesn't like a little surprise in their stories!

I also really, really liked the whole inside layout of the book with the majority - the light pages - being in Sabrina's perspective and the chapters in between - the black pages - being other people's points of view. It was quite refreshing and different and not at all boring.

There were some feelings, too but the whole story is more of a cute teenie romance with a dark twist.

I always loved the characters around Sabrina, no matter if it comes down to the old TV show or the new one or in this case the book.

Especially Ambrose and his funny, witty, and often darker kind of character jumped right at me. He's a bit dramatic and maybe comes across as crazy sometimes, but all up he's got way more up his sleeve than one would suspect in the first place.

And Sabrina herself has always been kind of my favourite witch. She's kind, smart, gorgeous, and always finds a way to protect the people she cares about. Though I really don't want to spoil too much here, so I guess you'll have to meet her and all her amazing friends yourself.

'Season Of The Witch' by Sarah Rees Brennan was an easy read for in between. I quite enjoyed the witty - sometimes snarky - discussions between the characters and the funny writing style.

There's not a whole lot of action as the story is really just taking place around a couple of days in Summer and it would be weird, if there was enough action to fill months and months. But that wasn't a problem at all as even though it's a bit of a slow pace, I was really hooked to the book from the first page.

This book is the perfect read, if you know a bit about Sabrina already and want to know more about her background as there's a whole lot of information hidden in the story.

I can absolutely recommend this read and am curious how the story will continue, both the TV show and the next book.
