REVIEW TO 'NOCTURNA' BY MAYA MOTAYNE

{UNPAID ADVERTISEMENT - REVIEW}

Magic is a pure force that flows through this world, but it needs a conduit, shone. We are those conduits, the vessels for magic to grow in. One cannot survive without the other. We give it life, purpose, and, in your eyes, color. And when we are done, we return the magic to the ether for another to borrow.

Magia Para Todos; Magic for all.

To Finnian Voy, magic is two things: a knife to hold under the throat of anyone who crosses her, and a disguise she shrugs on as easily as others pull on cloaks. As a talented faceshifter, it's been years since Finn has seen her own face, and that's exactly how she likes it. But when she gets caught by a powerful mobster, she's forced into an impossible mission: steal a legendary treasure from Castallan's royal palace or be stripped of her magic forever.

To Prince Alfehr magic is an escape, but one that comes with a price. First in line for the throne after the disappearance of his older brother, Alfie is desperate to find him and bring him home, even if it means dabbling in forbidden magic.

And when Finn and Alfie's fates collide, they realise magic can be other things too, and the type they accidentally release into the world is something neither expects, or understands.

It's hungry.

The cover is quite different to what I usually go for but it somehow screamed at me to look at it. And what can I say? The more I looked at it, the more I fell in love. It's standing out in the crowd and it's amazing to discover all the tiny details. The colours also fit the story quite well.

The author Maya Motayne absolutely nailed it! Her writing style is extremely thrilling, heartbreaking, emotional, and action-loaded. I also love how she brings humour in a story filled with such darkness. The conversations between the characters made me laugh on a regular basis.

The Latino setting was amazing and different to your usual books around magic. The author integrated Spanish words into the conversations what made the story even more authentic. They’re simple words I could pick up and guess the meaning easily. It gave the story a fresh and sparky touch.

‘Nocturna’ is a story full of magic, unexpected friendships, and feelings which make you shiver. You also don't find your typical love story here. It's not like: Hey, I just fell in love with this guy that walked past. Nope... The feelings grow slowly and hidden. They don't even know what hit them for a very long time. I love it! The love story also isn’t the main topic in this book what I find quite refreshing.

Alfie isn’t your typical spoiled prince. He deeply cares for his people but he is also an adventurer. He’s mischievous, caring, courageous, loving, and has a heart full of light.

Finn is a thief but not because her heart is full of darkness. No, she only does what she needs to do to survive and to escape her past. She lived through hell an is still able to show kindness. She’s witty, loyal, and has courage. She dares to hope, even if she doesn’t want to in the first place.

’Nocturna’ captured my heart. It pulled me in pretty much from the first words and I practically inhaled this story. I love the setting and the plot is perfectly planned through. This story is full of humour and other good emotions even though the main topic is a darkness so black it swallows it’s victims whole.

In my opinion every fantasy-lover should read this epic story. Believe me, you won’t regret it!
