REVIEW TO 'DISNEY A WHOLE NEW WORLD - A TWISTED TALE' BY LIZ BRASWELL

ADVERTISEMENT {REVIEW}

I received this book as a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion. A big thank you goes here to Scholastic Australia.

What if Aladdin had never found the lamp? This first book in the A Twisted Tale line will explore a dark and daring version of Disneys Aladdin. To stop the power-mad ruler, Aladdin and the deposed Princess Jasmine must unite the people of Agrabah in rebellion. But soon their fight for freedom threatens to tear the kingdom apart in a costly civil war. What happens next? A Street Rat becomes a leader. A princess becomes a revolutionary. And readers will never look at the story of Aladdin in the same way again.

Little Miss C has been a roll lately when it comes to finishing books. One of the last ones she read has been ᴀ ᴡʜᴏʟᴇ ɴᴇᴡ ᴡᴏʀʟᴅ by Liz Braswell. It is part of the ᴅɪꜱɴᴇʏ ᴛᴡɪꜱᴛᴇᴅ ᴛᴀʟᴇꜱ ᴄᴏʟʟᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ and can be read independently of the other books.

We found the cover to be stunningly beautiful and the blurb very promising.

Unfortunately, C has been a bit disappointed in this story as her expectations have been really high. It is an easy read and all but in the first third or so, there has been absolutely nothing new compared to the original Disney movie. Agrabah itself has been worked out quite good but she just didn't feel the story as she was used to from other Disney books and movies. The only scenes she loved, have been the scary and fast paced ones.

She thought the characters mainly dull and unrelatable. Jasmine has been self-centred and sometimes even annoying. The Genie - who is her absolute favourite in the movie - just didn't capture her at all as he didn't even get close to being as remarkable as in the original. Aladdin himself was okay though not overly impressive. The only one, who really convinced C, has been Jafar. He came out quite as the evil villain he is and C honestly enjoyed it whenever he popped up in the story.

All summed up ᴀ ᴡʜᴏʟᴇ ɴᴇᴡ ᴡᴏʀʟᴅ couldn't convince Little Miss C. The story had a lot of potential and the expectations have been high but the whole plot and most of the characters could have done well when given some more thought.
