REVIEW TO 'HALF-BLOOD' - COVENANT #1 BY JENNIFER L. ARMENTROUT

I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion. A huge thank you goes here to Hachette Australia.

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi - pure-bloods - have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals - well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:

Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.

Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem - staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

I absolutely love the cover of this book! With most books I prefer the black versions of the covers but not with this one. In my opinion the white one is stunning beautiful.

It's not overloaded with too many details but it stands out with the colours and the beautiful, smokey flower.

The author's writing style is amazing. I love it how her words pulled me into the story. She writes in such a thrilling, addictive and detailed way that it was extremely hard for me to put this book down at all. I could imagine every scene, every person and even every small detail perfectly.

The emotions in this book are boiling over from the very first words. I have been sent on an emotional rollercoaster as in 'HalfBlood' you can find everything: love, hate, friendship, fear. Name any emotion and I can assure you, you will find it in this breathtaking story!

The plot is very well planned through. I couldn't find any dull or boring scenes whatsoever. I have been surprised by the plot twists, which sometimes left me speechless and shocked.

And then there are the characters. Some of them might have brought out my scepticism when I first met them but after a while, I fell in love with every last one of these stunning personalities.

At first, there is Alex. She is the courageous, strong, determined and loving protagonist in this story. Alex is a halfblood. She is spontaneous, acts first and thinks about her actions later. Alex fights for what is right and important. Of course there are times in which she is scared but she takes every situation as it comes. She says what she thinks, often without thinking first but always honestly. I adore her, especially for her bubbly personality.

Then there is Caleb - Alex' best friend and also a halfblood. At first he might seem like a lightheaded joker, who has no care in the world. Though after getting to know him better, he is one of my most favourite characters. He has such a loving and caring personality. Caleb always tries to lighten up the mood and to make the ones he loves happy. He would go through hell for the people he cares for.

You will also come across Aiden - a lot. He is a pureblood and therefore a whole lot higher up in the society than Alex. But unlike other purebloods, he doesn't care if his friends are pures or halfs. He doesn't think that he's something better. Aiden is quiet, observing, fair, caring and calm. He has a strong elemental talent, which he uses as a sentinel instead of taking over his right of being part of the politics in his world.

And last but not least there is Seth. Well the ones under you who know this series will understand my struggles to describe Seth! He seems arrogant, explosive and spontaneous. It seems like he has no care in the world and always thinks that he is better than everyone else. But there is more to him and that's the hard part on describing him. He is funny and deep down he cares a lot for specific people. Yes, he makes mistakes but seriously, who doesn't!? I'm officially 'Seth-ified'!

'Half-Blood' is definitely one of my 'all-time-favourites' and I can't wait to continue reading this amazing series! It is beautiful - inside and out. I'm definitely addicted to Jennifer L. Armentrout's books.

I can highly recommend this book to anyone, who loves a great YA-Fantasy story. But be careful, the writing style is highly addictive!
