REVIEW TO 'A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES' BY SARAH J. MAAS

~ 'She stole a life. Now she must pay with her heart.' ~

Overview:

Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ...

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

Review:

I absolutely love the cover of this book. With it's rich red colour, the thorny details and the woman in the very detailed dress, it resembles the story perfectly.

This has been my first book by Sarah J. Maas and I have to admit, she has an amazing writing style. Usually I'm very careful with books as hyped as this one but with this thrilling story, the author won my heart in an instant. She writes in an addicting way and it has been impossible to put the book down once I have started to read.

The plot has been thought through in every detail and there are no dull scenes or contradictions whatsoever.

And then there are the characters. They are stunning, all in their own way. I adore them all. No matter, if they're good or evil.

At first there is Feyre. She is the amazing protagonist of this story. Feyre is loving and kind in her own way but she also holds a certain amount of bitterness. She has courage and loves in a way one can't imagine. Feyre is self-sacrificing and would do everything to protect the ones she cares for. Even if it means, that her own horrors come true.

And then there are all the other fantastic characters. You will meet Feyre's family, her sisters - Elain and Nesta - as well as her father.

But there are also various High Fae and lesser faeries for you to get to know. Some are hideous and cruel in ways you would never have thought possible. They slaughter and torture and do these things with great passion. And then there are those for whom I fell within a heartbeat.

This book is definitely not a 'typical faerie book' with mostly glitter and adorable little creatures. It's quite the opposite. And though it's full of heartbreaking scenes, monsters and fear, it is also spiked with love, friendship and hope.

'A Court Of Thorns And Roses' is most definitely one of my highlights this year and Sarah J. Maas has now a new fan for sure. I can't wait to read on and get myself carried away again into this wonderful world.

“There are those who seek me a lifetime but never we meet,

And those I kiss but who trample me beneath ungrateful feet.

At times I seem to favor the clever and the fair,

But I bless all those who are brave enough to dare.

By large, my ministrations are soft-handed and sweet,

But scorned, I become a difficult beast to defeat.

For though each of my strikes lands a powerful blow,

When I kill, I do it slow... ”
