Spoiler-Warning: This is book #2 in this series. Please don't read this review, if you haven't read book #1.
As a thief, I stick to the shadows as much as possible. But when the head of the Sinclair Family picks me to compete in the Tournament of Blades, there's no escaping the spotlight - or the danger. Even though he's my competition, Devon Sinclair thinks I have the best shot at winning what's supposed to be a friendly contest. But when the competitors start having mysterious "accidents", it looks like someone will do anything to win - no matter who they hurt. As if I didn't have enough to worry about, mobster Victor Draconi is plotting against Devon and the rest of my friends, and someone's going around Cloudburst Falls murdering monsters. One thing's for sure. Sometimes humans can be more monstrous than anything else....

The cover is beautiful. With it's warm colours it seems like you're staring straight into the rising sun of dawn. The surrounding woods feel soothing but with the woman's silhouette it also has a dark, magical side to it. It's perfect for this story!
The narrator Brittany Pressley has an amazing voice. She pulls you straight into the story and plays with her voice in an absolutely professional manner. I couldn't imagine a better narrator for this book.
Brittany tells this action filled and emotional story in such a thrilling way that I could barely stop listening to this audiobook. The story itself contains surprising plot twists, which sometimes left me completely speechless.
The characters have evolved a great deal. They seem to have grown up a whole lot since book #1. Lila has found her way in the Sinclair Family and if she wants it or not, some of the members have grown on her. She might seem tough to outsiders but has a soft and caring heart.
This time I would also like to introduce you to Devon Sinclair. He holds many surprises and is as understanding and kind as one could be. Many think that he holds no magic and is helpless though he is the complete opposite. Devon has a huge secret to protect his life and on top of it he is a great fighter. He knows exactly how to use a blade.
There are many more characters, which are important to the story. All of them, no matter if good or evil, are stunning.
'Dark Heart Of Magic' is a thrilling, breathtaking continuation of the 'Black Blade' series. I love the set-up as well as the characters and can highly recommend this series.
I'm definitely looking forward to listen to book #3 as I can't wait to dive back into the story and join Lila on her adventures.
