There Be Monsters Here....
It's not as great as you'd think, living in a tourist town that's known as "the most magical place in America". Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power. I try to keep out of it. I've got my mom's bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick.
But then some nasty characters bring their Family feud into my friend's pawn shop, and I have to make a call - get involved or watch a cute guy die because I didn't. I guess I made the wrong choice, because now I'm stuck putting everything on the line for Devon Sinclair. My mom was murdered because of the Families, and it looks like I'm going to end up just like her....

The cover is absolutely beautiful. It comes across as magical with it's colours, the woods and the woman's silhouette. Even the font suits the cover perfectly. I love it!
The narrator Brittany Pressley is just right for the main character Lila. Her smoky voice fits the cheeky girl perfectly. Brittany uses her pleasant voice skillfully to show her listeners every scene in a detailed and thrilling way. She did a great job and I really enjoyed listening to her.
I found the story itself to be fascinating, thrilling and thoroughly thought out. I could imagine every scene and character perfectly fine and couldn't find any dull scenes at all. Jennifer Estep most certainly convinced me again of her talent as an author.
When it comes to the characters, then you'll see that there is a broad range of character traits in most of them. They are not simply good or evil. No. They are good and evil at the same time. They are surrounded by loving friends or family members and at the same time they are still alone. Some of them seem dangerous or mysterious. Others are funny or arrogant.
And then there is Lila. She is courageous, funny, cheeky, loving, scared, caring, kind, alone, loved and has a big heart. There are some scenes in which I just wanted to hug her to show her that she is amazing and that she's not alone. But don't be fooled. She is all but helpless. Lila is highly skilled with her blades. I absolutely love her!
'Cold Burn Of Magic' is a great book and I can't wait to dive back into this magical world to join Lila on her next thrilling adventure. I can definitely recommend this book without any second thoughts.
